Job Hunting / Interviewing Tips

• Pray and ask God to give you favor and to open doors no man can close.
• Network with as many people as you can. You may be surprise that you may get a job because of a friend of a friend who knew someone else that was hiring.
• Attend job networking clubs (e.g., Launch Pad Job Club)
• Use social media sites like LinkedIn, etc.

• Reapply on job sites every three months so that your profile seems fresh to a company.
• Have one generic resume and then modify it to match the job requirements of the company you want to get an interview with.
• Go on interviews even if you don't think you will get the job. It is a great opportunity to practice your interviewing skills especially if you have not interviewed in a long time.
• Develop new skills and enhance your existing skills. The more you learn, the more you may earn.
• The job you apply for may not be the exact job you want but once you get in the door you can seek other positions.
• Who you know may get you a job. What you know may help you keep a job.
• Have a one minute elevator speech that you can deliver when needed.
• Dress accordingly for the job you want.
• Have a positive attitude when interviewing.
• Drive to the interview location if you have never been there to see how long it will take you to get to the interview. You don't want to be late for an interview. In fact, you want to arrive early.
• Practice with common interviewing questions. Go on-line to find some.
• Research the company or the company website before you go on the interview.
• Don't worry that you don't have all of the requirements that a company is needing. This is often done to scare people from applying that are timid. If you don't know something that they are requiring, tell them that "you learn quickly and you adapt readily"
• At the end of the interview, ask when will they be making a decision.
• If they ask you how much you would like to get paid, ALWAYS give a large salary range ($70K - $80K).  You don't want to sell yourself short.
• Know what you can offer a company because it's all about business.
• How do you distinguish yourself from other? What are your core competencies?
• Are you willing to relocate, travel, etc.?
